A Ping Pong patch implemented three different ways of doing Inversion.  Use two LFOs (Low Frequency Oscillators), use the 8VERT module (attenuverter) of use an Inverted MIX module with a non-inverted MIX module.

Modules used in the Cosmic Core Synth 2d – Ping Pong patch…

BrandModuleFunction
VCV8VERTUsed to Send a Signal and an Inverted Signal
VCVVCOAccepts musical notes and provides an audio waveform
VCVADSRTakes a Gate Input and provides and envelope for VCA MIX
VCVVCAVoltage Controlled Amplifier (volume) – Left Stereo Channel
VCVVCA MIXFour Channel Mixer with Volume Level Sliders controlled with voltage input from the ADSR
VCVSCOPEThe SCOPE shows the signals from the 8VERT module being 180 degrees out of phase.
VCVAUDIOInterface to the speakers
VCVMIDI -> CVMIDI notes from a keyboard converted to a Control Voltage
VCVWT LFOWave Table Low Frequency Oscillator. WT POS is set at 0% to produce a Sine Wave
VCVVCAVoltage Controlled Amplifier (volume) – Right Stereo Channel
VCVNOTESInformation about the patch
All modules are from the VCV Rack 2 Fundamental set

Notes about the patch

Use the WT LFO Knob to control the speed of the panning (Ping Pong).

The WT LFO along with the 8VERT module create the Ping Pong effect. WT POS is set at 0% so that a sine wave is generated.

The WT VCO signal is sent to two inputs on 8VERT. When an 8VERT knob is hard right, 100% of the signal passes. When an 8VERT knob is hard left a -100% signal (i.e. inverted) signal passes. The VCA’s show the speed of the effect. The ADSR Envelope is triggered by the keyboard and fed to the VCA MIX.

The SCOPE shows the signals from the 8VERT module being 180 degrees out of phase.

Suggestions for Exploration

  • Change WT LFO module’s FREQ and WT POS knobs. (hard right on both knobs create a bell like sound).
  • Feed SEQ-3 Clock and Control Voltages into the WT LFO modules FM and POS connections.
